Hello everyone!

I am new to this business and am a student who wanna learn and experiment things.

However, I am curious about:

  • What are THESE aliases and what they are beneficial for.
  • Is it really necessary to use them?
  • If so, when and where?
  • And most important, HOW?

I expect support and guidance over the same! You can even provide me links to the content!

Thank You.

Hope Heliohost helps me learn the things better! Thanks heliohost!

Hey,

What are THESE aliases and what they are beneficial for.

Aliases are basically separate domain names which can access and display the same webpages as your default one and can act as another domain liked to the same set of data.
They help when you have various names or would like to use another name for the same website.

Is it really necessary to use them.

Obvously, it is not necessary to use them! It is only when you require another domain to work side-by-side with the default one.

And most important, HOW?

The domain registrar you use will give you a few options of how you would like to use this domain name. You can select to use DNS/Point Domain and fill up in the provided spaces insert the two nameservers of Heliohost, ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org .

Then in your cPanel, select Aliases(in paper lantern theme) and enter your domain name.

There you go. Within 15 minutes-24 hours based on your domain registrar, your domain will successfully point to your heliohost server.

A good example of why you would use aliases is if you own a business named "My Example Business", and you want to register some domains. It's common to buy the myexamplebusiness.com, myexamplebusniess.biz, myexamplebusiness.net, myexamplebusiness.us, etc. to prevent your customers from becoming confused or someone setting up a really similar domain name and maybe stealing your customers. You could just add all those domains as aliases to your main domain and if someone visits myexamplebusiness.com or myexamplebusiness.us they are shown the exact same content without having to copy all of your files to two different domains.

Thanks for the detailed and accurate explanation. it is easy to understand and the procedure is quite handy too.

Your efforts are worthy and mean a lot to a learner like me.

Understanding it, I surely will give "Aliases" a try.

I really appreciate your work and again, thank you so much for the same - rutaj6, Krydos.

Wish you a good luck!
