But, with your suggestion, I used FTP to upload the info.php file to the mirror site hosted (still) by Tommy, and found out it's running PHP 5.4.45 (https://infantex.mx/info.php),

That's strange. This version is not currently available in the distribution package. That is, it should not refer to the VPS.

    I looked at infantex.mx:

    $ dig infantex.mx

    ; ANSWER SECTION:
    infantex.mx. 14400 IN A 65.19.143.6

It still refers to Tommy. You haven't switched name servers yet.

  2. EU.org is still working.

But EU.org admins now seem to be busy with other work.
Therefore, the registration application has been waiting for 1-2 months.

The registration process proceeded a few hours ago and was processed until early July 2021.
This comment is July 31, 2021. Therefore, about a month's worth of registration applications are still in the queue.

  3. This will no longer work. HelioHost is currently in the process of switching from cPanel to Plesk.
Currently, the HelioHost shared server cannot use mail temporarily.

Also note that you commented on the 2013 post. That's too old information.

  4. This answer is decentralized, as many people have written it, but these topics and comments already exist.
    The answer I know:

You say our websites will be down, but as of now mine (a set of static files as well as a MySQL remote connection) are still working. Does that mean it'll stay, or is it going to go down in a bit?

The account will be deleted once when the administrator installs Plesk. This will cause a few days down.

If the latter, would there be a grace period before you start work? I'd definitely find it helpful if I had, say, a couple days to switch over to my VPS and get things running there. (Of course that also means people who don't have a backup plan wait that much longer for their setup to be fixed, so if you need to blackout now, that's cool, I understand).

Tommy will soon be down. Next is Ricky, then Johnny. It is foretold that this work will take days.
Tommy users have already received an email from HelioHost. It has a link where you can download the backup. Everything that cPanel managed is there.
Of course, you can back up using SFTP before you receive the email.
If you are using something other than Tommy, you still have days to back up.

Details of 2 items so far:

A more long term question (which you've probably already thought about): are there any open-source cPanel/Plesk alternatives which would prevent HelioHost from being caught in the cold again?

HelioHost chose Plesk because it can be installed on Lily, which runs Windows Server. This almost eliminates other options.
Root administrators and moderators may provide a little more information on this.

Also, to answer some of the panicked enquiries elsewhere on the forum, I'm pretty sure HelioHost will remain free as soon as the Plesk switchover has been sorted out. That's kind of the point of their existence 😉

Yes. That is the correct: "Free hosting for everyone." This should not change.
However, I also know that HelioHost is considering new options. It will be revealed soon. (already have a $4 VPS option)

I have set the nameservers at my domain registrant as ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org.

If this is set, it will continue to reference the shared server. You need to change this.
Krydos recommends using an external service for this. This is because there are some issues when configuring with VPS. Related topics:

  6. Since the name server was also managed by cPanel, this also needs to be temporarily managed by VPS or another service is used.
You should be able to log in to the registry (ore reseller) and change the name server of domains.

    https://dns.he.net/
Hurricane Electric Free DNS seems to be used by many HelioHost users. This is also the location of the HelioHost server.

    https://www.cloudflare.com/
I like Cloudflare. since this is a CDN service, it has many other functions besides DNS.

I have bought the $4.00 VPS but it never asked me my email nor anything, so the credentials will be sent to my PayPal email or where?

I recently signed up for a VPS. I received the server information email at PayPal's main email address.

I had the same experience when I signed up for a VPS. Make sure you still paid $4.

That VPS is nothing but the OS may be read in Krydos' posts; thus I know what it is. And having to install all servers myself, are you sure? If HelioHost installs Hestia, everything seems to be automatically installed (if I correctly understood the Hestia documentation). For the rest you may be right, that I'll get problems: Nginx instead of Apache, MariaDB instead of MySQL, some PHP application server instead of Apache PHP module, I guess, nothing said about Perl (but might be part of Ubuntu OS)...

Krydos will help you install the server application to some extent.
However, he's currently crazy about backup and Plesk installation work, so don't expect it too much.
Of course, some packages are easy to install with distribution packages.

My VPS was delivered with a minimal configuration running only ssh. That's what I expected.

there was this thing that you had to log in every 30 days to not get offlined, but now there is no place to log in and the 30 days will be over soon 😱

Jenova and I confirmed this. I hope it won't be archived until Plesk is built.

and this forum account is separate from the main account, because the main account didnt have a display name?

If the main account is HelioHost, yes.
Until recently, HelioHost and HelioNet had to be registered separately.

In addition, HelioNet has recently changed its forum system. So I signed up three times.

Okay, I'll wait my web "nmbayu76.eu.org" on plesk panel on tommy server is activated, I hope run smoothly with that, oh ya my storage on tommy server is 2GB please don't forget, thanks

    username : nmbayu76

    server : Tommy

    web: nmbayu76.eu.org

No, HelioHost's shared servers (including the Tommy server) are still working. (Although cPanel is lost)

    https://wiki.helionet.org/misc/server-status
    http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/

The web will still work because you are using nmbayu76.eu.org in the main domain.

    $ dig nmbayu76.eu.org

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    nmbayu76.eu.org. 180 IN A 185.215.234.1
    nmbayu76.eu.org. 180 IN A 185.215.235.1

    nmbayu76.eu.org references a different server.
Check EU.org and the name server service you are using.

Also, please do not comment on support information. The administrator may skip the confirmation.
It should be posted in the right place (You post a lot, so I think you're used to it. But...) :
