  1. Long ago I started coming here with the username cribaby to go along with a company I had considered creating. Well, after the production line fell a bit short I dropped the cribaby idea and moved on. I'm now considering making a different site but cribaby seems out of place as a username/URL. Is there any way to change my username/URL? I know that creating duplicates is a no-no and the registration is down right now anyway. Just curious.
  2. That plus threw me off at first. A little testing and things go so much smoother.
  3. I would greatly enjoy an IRC chat with a web interface for people to join if they don't understand IRC. Bots would work (and I enjoy writing them, so that'd be fun). Shoutboxes actually slow the activity of the forum but they do get people to return more readily. A site I frequent has one and people are always in it talking, even when the boards are slow.
  4. What, no changelog? Haha, just kidding.
  5. Firefox works fine for registering an account. If you question that your account has been made, you can ask djbob and he can look for you. Please remember that it takes 24 hours to process and you should not try to re-sign-up during those 24 hours.
  6. I think I'll have to praise you for being the most intelligent being in the world if you can find a better way to tell someone that they need to purchase a domain before they can use it. I have never seen a free top level domain (other than .tk) and I'm sure you'd go out of business before the day's end if you offered free .com domains.
  7. PHPBB > IPB > SMF That's just my opinion. I've found PHPBB the easiest to use, IPB is a close second but I don't much like the layout, and SMF has just been difficult.
  8. Wow, I haven't been able to get back to this site in a couple of days and look at the activity! I'll go about making more edits in the next few days, if able. Also, screenshots of what you're doing. The code (blocks instead of just the yellow lines, so you can see what's surrounding the code you've made) and the final result of what you've done. Either way, it helps.
  9. Also, keep in mind that it takes approximately 24 hours to activate your account. If you do not get a confirmation page; do NOT attempt to remake it. It won't work and it'll probably delete them both. If you don't get a confirmation page you should contact djbob to make sure it was successful. If it wasn't then he'll tell you to remake it. Also, unless you have a paid domain, make sure you choose .heliohost.org for your domain.
  10. That site is blocked where I work. I'll check it out at home, but if you're still on I'd really like a short synapsis of what it's all about. From what you've said so far it sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. How does it work without java or flash?
  11. Meebo isn't going to give me quite as much control as I want. I use mIRC for my IRC needs but, as I said, IRC only won't work because people who aren't computer savvy won't waste their time downloading a chat program to talk to a few people they could talk to using other means. Anyway, thank you all for your input. Maybe I'll just try to get a shoutbox working with phpbb.
  12. The type of stuff I generally do in chat rooms requires that I have it update per message (even if it's just the chat window). As far as ajax goes, I was looking at the w3schools and while I can understand the concept, the individual code baffles me. I need it broken down more so I understand what each tag does. Otherwise, I don't know what to modify. :S
  13. I'm not sure that one is going to do what I'm looking for. I'll try and use it if I can't find anything else, though. Thanks crazy. Are there any others that might be useful?
  14. Has anyone here used any form of chat room software that is easy to use, free, and can hold more than 10 people? Or does anyone know a good way to program a chatroom using PHP? I'm not really good with AJAX and I don't know a way to force the window to refresh when someone sends a message. I'd prefer for the software to be able to support IRC and GUI connections, but GUI only would be fine. IRC only will not work as most people don't know how/won't use mIRC or any similar programs any longer. On another note: Does anyone here run an IRC chat? I'm a pretty fair IRC bot developer and I'd like to get back into it if I can't figure out a good way to get a chat room on my own site.
