Not a lot of topics on Helionet about Technology and the Internet so I thought I start one.

List all possible things that you think will be in the future; you don't have to say why but you know creativity, imagation and all that good stuff.

1.) I think there are going tobe a lot of things but mostly Cars that can drive themselves. What would think even call that autopilot or autodrive (You Choose, I think autodrive.)

2.) I also think that something is going to happen with food in the future, not sure what it is going tobe about but I am sure it going to be great :) , as long as it doesn't suck  .

But yeah, put whatever you thnk is going tohappen in the future it doesn't even have to be about tech it can be about anything.

So again, it can be about anything.

About the self-driving cars, the technology is already here (google cars).

It is only a matter of time before they find the way to the cars.

Yeah, that's true but the Google cars are still experimental or at least since I last checked so it could be awhile until that technology is built-in to the cars themselves; my guess is that won't be til another 6-7 years maybe less for all I know. ;)

about the food, there was an article on eetimes about a team getting funding to start 3d printing tests with meat, similar to how hospitals print skin grafts for burn victims.

We are on our way to having free and open source operating systems that are tailored to ones individual needs. Linux is awesome! It's already here but hardly made a dent on the desktop market. This community is gaining ground!

A good source of information on just this very subject are the writings of Ray Kurzweil, scientist, inventor, philosopher and author. He's described as a "futurist" and has written tons of stuff about where we're headed in terms of technology. Many of his predictions, such as solar electricity and even the demise of the USSR, have already come true. He's a controversial figure in science and technology but a prolific one, sort of the Asimov, Da Vinci and Nostradamus of this generation.

He's aided in the invention of text-to-speech synthesizers such as used by fellow genius scientist Stephen Hawking, who suffers from a crippling neurodegenerative disease, and musical instruments such as used by genius musician, singer and composer Stevie Wonder, blind since birth but who has had some of the most beloved hit songs of any generation. Kurzweil is also active in the discussion and study of subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, cybernetics and nanotechnology.

The only thing I'm honestly looking to is a precognitive algorithm that'll tell law enforcement about crimes that are 'likely' to be commited by individuals. When police start taking orders from an AI we as a society are surely screwed.

Ever read (or see) Minority Report? That's basically the core of the story. A man searching for the abductor of his son is arrested for murdering him, even though he hasn't even found him yet. But then again, there's not much intelligent life to be found in Congress (or Parliament) either. :P

Also, police have been taking orders from corrupt authorities for years. Including the seemingly permanent racist/supremacist culture in the U.S. -- the Rodney King beatings are a classic example, the "brotherhood" that protects one another and attacks whistleblowers as criminals themselves, and the issue of law enforcement spouses having to call the other cops on the (usually husband) who is also a cop, and either nothing being done or the woman getting in trouble for wasting police time. It sounds stereotypical and "Law & Order" drama, but I know this last one to be true firsthand, because I come from a family of law enforcement and this has always been the case for the women in the household.

I've seen countless times cops speeding in traffic or breaking traffic laws that they don't get ticketed for, but us regular folks do. Not all, probably 0.01% of what I've seen on the roads, are involved in high-speed chases. Again, it sounds stereotypical, but from personal experience I can tell you: When I was a kid I was in the car with my mom and we almost got in a terrible accident, all because a black-and-white cut us off -- to get into the McDonald's lane. The tires literally screeched and left trackmarks in the mall parking lot. After that we decided to go to BK instead. An AI sort of traffic light that stops the car at a red might not be a bad idea. ^_^

This topic reminds me of a collection of public domain images I recently found. It is a bunch of pictures made by French artists in 1899, 1900, 1901 and 1910. They were portraying how they believed France would be like in the year 2000. It is really interesting and makes me think that a lot of the stuff we might think will happen in the next hundred years or so will not happen for a very long time (if ever). If you want to see the pictures you can find them here: http://publicdomainreview.org/2012/06/30/france-in-the-year-2000-1899-1910/

My Prediction - In the next 10 or so years we'll see massive advances in the field of Augmented Reality.

8 or so years ago it was a gimmick for games using camera phones, now it's already a navigation aid using cameras in tablets and smart phones, it won't be long until it's standard as a HUD in cars, apps on mobile devices, and overlays in glasses for navigation, be it street shops or motorway junctions, facebook will adopt it for seeing how far away your friends are, dating sites will use it to show how far away your nearest potential "date" is, you'll be able to shop for things just by looking at them, all well within the reach of the next decade.
