Gun crime

Honestly, I don't like the idea of guns at all. I'd be perfectly happy if people would just have at it with their bare hands whenever they had problems. Sure, it's slower but at least there's no way to say you accidentally killed anyone. The fact of the matter is, people use guns because they're easy to use and incredibly deadly in any hands, let alone those skilled with them.

So, yes I do agree with the banning of guns in the UK (and everywhere else) but only if everyone, military and all, are disarmed. This will never ever happen, so I don't even bother thinking about it unless it's brought up.

The reason I say disarm the military (globally) is because I don't want any nation, even my own, having weapons and me not having a way to defend myself. We may think the U.S. wouldn't do something like that but the government is only as good as the people running it. Sadly, it's not the citizens that run our government, so the citizens are second-class to the politicians, and I don't trust politicians.

Granted, I beleive the world would be well rid of the beastly things (guns). However, guns can also be a method of self0defece for those who are not physically strong enough to repel an attacker hand-to-hand. I myself, as I woman living in a large city, feel it is something of an obligation to myself to carry a gun permit and a pistol when out on the streets at night (even sometimes during hte day). Why? Rapists, mostly, buta lso thieves and all manner of violent criminals.

The honest people who would give up their guns int he even of a ban are often the ones who would end up needing them the most. After all, since criminals obiviously don't have any problen doing something illegal, and often already own illegal guns, these criminals owuld probably have the upper hand. Why? Simply because they wouln't abide by the ban! It would make it easer for them to rob, murder, and rape because their victims would have fewer effective defenses!

Pepper spray and tazers? These could be used as offensive weapins in the stead of guns, and their range and effectiveness is limited.

So I can see both sides of the gun debate, but I'm not yet willing to sacrifice my most effective self-defense weapon (Lets hope I never have to use it) when a dangerous criminal might still have his/hers. Call me paranoid, but still...

Being a red-butted American and something of a hick myself, I feel I should toss in my two cents in a respectful sort of way.

First of all, I respect how other people feel about guns and, having talked to great many people regarding them, I think I can understand a little why most people feel the way they do about them. Me, I grew up in a kinda small, farming-type community, with tractors, corn, big back yards, woods, deer, hunting, and lots of guns. And true, there's those people who talk about waving guns around and throwing dynamite in lakes to fish like you see in movies, but that *rarely* (I say rarely 'cause I've never seen it and never hear of anywhere near my town doing it, but I can't prove it doesn't exist) happens. Anywho, I've been toting guns around since I was little, and the first thing I learned about them was safety. So everyone around my town is comfortable with firearms and use them for sport and whatnot, there being too little crime to require them for self-defense. Very rarely is anyone shot by accident (like once every 10 years, and not fatally, when they are mistaken for a deer). That's why I like guns, I've been around them my whole life and they're fun.

Apart from that, being American, I'm pretty entrenched in the idea that I can have a gun, and you can't take it away, 'cause it's my right. I also think they cause less crime, but that may or may not be true; I've had a stats class, and statistics tell you anything you want them to, believe me.

Love and hearts for everyone!

If you carry on having a gun then other people will carry guns because they feel threatened by your gun. By carrying a gun you are just making other people think they need you carry a gun. The only way to get guns off the street is to not carry a gun yourself and then maybe other people will do the same thing.

i think all gun imported and exported should be banned in the uk because of death to young little kids

please have your say on this topic

The problems is that the UK border control is not good enough to catch everyone with a gun. Live guns can not be taken into this country. All the killings are from illegal guns. No citzen is allowed to carry a gun in public anyway.

If guns were made 100% illegal, it would be taking guns away from the people who obtain them legally for protection and doing close to nothing to the people who obtain them through illegal means (like drug dealers, organized crime, etc.)

Thank you. This is exactly the problem with taking guns away from the people. I'm from the US, and I'm an ardent defender of the second amendment - I go to the shooting range twice a week, and I'm always armed.

Put simply, people who are not criminals will not hurt anybody with guns. But no matter what, criminals will always find a way to get what they want, guns included. By taking them away from the people who legimately need protection, they'll have no way of defending themselves against another gun.
