Hm.. This is a question that I've always assumed meant, which do you believe in? Creationism or evolution? If you believe in the former than you probably believe that the chicken came first, but if you believe in the latter than the egg came first.

Allow me to go into this a little further. Because the question doesn't specifically say the egg which came first has to be a chicken egg, any egg would count towards the egg coming first, whereas our definition for a chicken is more limited. Many things lay eggs, and therefore before chickens existed eggs have been around.

On the other hand if you believe that all creatures were created by God, than you may very well believe that he (or she) created chickens first, which then proceeded to lay eggs, and therefore chickens came first.

Btw, I voted for the egg. >.>;

...because god isn't powerful enough to create an egg first.

Yes, that's true.. But if you believe in an all mighty, all knowing God, do you believe that God would create an egg without a chicken (hen specifically) to protect it, keep it warm, and keep it alive? Unlike some other creatures, chicken eggs do not get buried to keep them safe and protected, and a small baby chick may struggle to dig its way out. Moreover, without a parent to rise it, it may struggle to survive.

But still, you make a valid point.

There was neither a 'first chicken' nor a 'first egg'. Let's vote for the sheep! :D

Perhaps the chicken arrived first. Perhaps it arrived in today's form in one way or another. In other words, was the chicken always a chicken? Or did it become what it is today as a result of millions of years of evolution? Or creation? Was there a "dinosaur" chicken?

Perhaps the egg was a result of some form of evolutionary protection for the fragile newborn in an environment that slowly required a "shell" for it's initial protection and survival. Perhaps millions and millions of years ago, such an environment did not require a "hard shell" entry into the world.

Just a thought.

For anyone that doesn't already know www.livescience.com/1410-rex-related-chickens.html

Besides from that, from another evolutionary stand point, its conclusive that the chicken was the predecessor to the egg, in fact the egg would have come a few million years before the chicken. (so I chose egg)

The only reason this question is so controversial is because the question itself is ambiguous :D/&--#62;.

Chicken... Cause chicken contains a scientific ingredient that is essential to make eggs....Without that ingredient eggs can't be produced..!!!

I think egg came first because evolution of new species(here chicken) only occur through mutation on the progenies or intra species reproduction. Thus the progeny(baby) come first means the egg
