  1. Thank you very much for your rapid reply and confirmation that I should go ahead and create an account on Tommy. I look forward to doing that and continuing to enjoy the splendid Heliohost service. Best Regards, Peter Maben P.S. I shall mark this topic as Solved.
  2. Hello there. Many thanks for the great Heliohost service. HelioHost username : petem The server your account is on: Stevie My HelioHost main domain icefactory.heliohost.org I am pleased to see that Stevie is feeling better ! I believe that I had renewed my account in early December following receipt of a notification email. ( On Thursday, December 1, 2016 12:26 PM, Heliohost <no-reply@heliohost.org> wrote:) I had tried to access my account in the interim and did not succeed - I attributed this to the unreliability of connection( from various hotel wifi's) here in Indonesia, where I am travelling. I then discovered that Stevie was down and so made no further attempt to login until today when I read that Stevie is now, at least partially, recovered. I did not receive any notice of account suspension in this intervening period, and I ascribed this to Stevie being down. When I attempted access today I received the message that my username and email are not present in your database. The last time I had tried this a few days ago, while Stevie was down, I received a notice that my account is on Stevie and that therefore I could not proceed. I would be most grateful for your advice as to how to proceed- I would happily migrate my account to Tommy, but while travelling I do not have access to a backup. I hope that you will have been able to make a backup of my data and that you can provide access to that, so as to be able to create a new account on Tommy. Many thanks in anticipation of your help, Best Regards, Peter Maben Many thanks guys - on further investigation I found Byron's post to find Stevie backups and I am greatly relieved to discover that I am one of the lucky ones - I am currently downloading the backup. So I suppose that I just need to recreate my username and main domain on Tommy and proceed from there. Do please let me know if there is anything I need to pay attention to in this process- otherwise I shall expect to be able to proceed and garner any extra guidance from the forums. Please just let me know that this is the correct way forward and I shall mark this topic as solved. Thanks again.
  3. Helo there, My user name is petem My primary domain is: icefactory.heliohost.org Hosted on server: stevie I have recently received notification of the suspension of my account due to inactivity. Due to the fact that I only have internet access via tablet, since my netbook has died, I find myself unable to follow the link to renew my account, as I find myself redirected to the mobile version of the site. I would be most grateful if you could renew the a/c for me, or tell me how I can access the link from my tablet. Failing that please hold off from deleting my account until I am able to access that link from a PC- which I shall be able to do early next week. Thank you in anticipation of your help and thanks too for the excellent service provided by Heliohost Best regards, Peter Maben
  4. While doing some work towards developing mobile apps, and getting to grips with Gnome-shell, my interest in Server-side Javascript has been renewed. I'm thinking of using it for web-scraping and to gather content from API Services to enrich web site content. I've specifically been using Node.js and wonder if any other Heliohost members are interested in or already using these technologies. Also wondering whether it would be acceptable to load node.js to my Heliohost space. Given that we do not have shell access to our accounts- ( sigh! - though I do understand the reasons) I anticipate creating a little perl/ CGI harness to launch node and apps using it. Thinking too that perhaps this approach would provide away to use Drush( Drupal's command line interface) on Heliohost'ed sites. Any observations/ pointers/ suggestions would be most welcome. I would have looked through other posts for relevant materials but unfortunately javascript is a forbidden search term . .a little odd for forums largely devoted to programming. .
  5. Thanks Byron - everything fine again now. . Thank you for your prompt attention and for the fine Heliohost service. . All the best, Pete
  6. Hello there My a/c name is petem My main domain is icefactory.heliohost.org The a/c is hosted on stevie My previous message was moved to escalated, but the thread there has been locked . . Admin xaav posted that the issue was resolved . .at least for another user Unfortunately it is not resolved for me. . My domain is still showing suspended. . . Noticed a twitter post saying all Stevie a/c's showing queued - but this also has been marked as resolved and my a/c is still showing suspended. I have cleared my browser cache to ensure this was not affecting things . I look forward to your help, All the best, Pete
  7. Hello there My a/c name is petem My main domain is icefactory.heliohost.org The a/c is hosted on stevie On Monday, September 12, 2011 5:47 I received a warning from Heliohost about account inactivity. This was odd as I had at that time got CPanel open and was in the process of deleting a mis-formed subdomain and replacing it with the correct form. This was completed sucessfully and I was able to see the subdomain imagepump.icefactory.heliohost.org I presumed that the message was alreedy queued before my latest activity. In the last 24 hours I have again been logged in to CPanel, but my latest attempt failed When I checked the site tonight by reloading the page I received the account suspended notice. I am not aware of any other reason for the a/c to be suspended. The site was not using tremendous amounts of space and nor was it making( as far as I know) heavy use of server resources. Earlier in the summer my account was deleted for inactiviity and I had to recreate it. I initially attempted the recreation on johnnie( which I believed to be the newer and faster server). This failed and gave an error message saying that that domain name alreasdy existed on stevie. I thought this strange as I had been informed that the a/c had been totally deleted. So I recreated my a/c on stevie and was able to begin the work of repopulating my site. Please look into this and resolve it for me. Thank you in anticipation of your help, and thanks too for the heliohost service, all the best, peter maben
  8. Hello all, I like this idea . .indeed anything that would expand my storage limits. . I'm presently reconstructing my sites having fallen foul of the 30 day login limit while away travelling. . . I'm using Heliohost for three related projects, each with approriate subdomains, and each using Movabletype and Drupal. The latter uses a single codebase with separte databsaes for each project, , Before my little disaster I was already close to the 250Mb limit, and this was before starting seriously to add content. I'm hoping to host numbers of image galleries and also to encourage visitors to contribute content, so increased storage is rapidly going to become a necessity. . Although I appreciate the idea of linking storage allocations to one's contributions to the forum and to Heliohost generrally, I wonder if any other users would, like me, be happy to cough up a modest sum to cover extra storage and perhaps also to be exempted from the 30day timeout. I'm a professional coder, committed to FLOSS software development and so Heliohhost was a natural choice as it offers an excellent service, and I ,like other users here, have no need for( expensive) support while developing. I've found the forums very helpful in dealing with specific technical issues as they arise. I wonder what sort of timescales would apply were the good folks of Heliohost( respect to DJBob and Byron and colleagues) to decide to allow users to use more space . . All the best.
  9. Hello again . . . I've dived in and created a new account on your Johnny server . . . now I'll just have to wait for the Cpanel a/c and site to go live . . Meanwhile I'll peruse my backups and prepare for a massive upload ! Oh yes .. close inspection of my Inbox revealed your warning message .. . unfortunately it arrived just as I went to a fairly remote region in Georgia and I didn't get online again in time, and I had not been able to access the Internet from my own computer with its CPanel bookmarks for some time previously...So it goes.. Too bad that it's all gone, but backups and some graft to recreate the subdomains and such should get me back on course.. Point taken about the impossibility of your keeping backups of user stuff . . and the space requirements that would entail. I had been thinking mostly of the routing stuff I'd set up . . I had imagined, perhaps wrongly, that such information might be stored independently of actual user content. Perhaps there are files within my user space that contain this configuration information that I could backup. Any advice about this would be appreciated . . . Given the complexity of the sites I had created and intend to re-create I was already nearing full capacity before this little disaster, even before creating much actual content and inviting users to contribute.. Drupal and Movable Type plus their respective extensions are rather space-hungry. . I wonder if there is any possibility of extending storage limits ? The graft process will no doubt make me yearn( again) for SSH for command line access - and perhaps drive me into the hands of commercial providers - though I hope not. I would like to use SSH for unning perl and DRUSH scripts, creating symlinks, and general file management, And now specifically for the recreation of subdmains and URL aliasing, though I don't know the ins and outs of this. In any event it shoulld be easier to recreate, as my orignal scheme had evolved over a period of months as I got clearer about what I wanted to achieve and how to set up the appropriate routings . . Incidentally I've made a lens at http://www.squidoo.com/heliohost and I'll be telling the story of my disaster and recovery process there . . Thanks again for your prompt replies and the great service Heliohost provides. . . All the best, Pete P.S. I wonder if there is a place on the forum for users to compare notes and show off their efforts ? It would be good to browse the range of stuff put up on Heliohost.
  10. Hello Byron - many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. . . I guess it must have been more than a month then - though I had tried to log in regularly I'm travelling at the moment and it's not always possible. . I have indeed got backups, so it should be possible to recontstruct things . . .minus a few most recent blog posts. . However I had created a fairly complex arrangement of subdomains and redirections.. so just having the files on my local machine will not be all I need .. . I wonder. . is there any chance of rescuing my stuff ? No doubt you keep your own backups... I shall not start to recreate things until you confirm that it has indeed all been irretrievably destroyed . . If I do have to start from scatch . .should I just recreate my user name and porceed from there, ,or. . . ? Once again thanks . .both for your prompt reply and for the excellent service offered by Heliohost. BTW. .on my site i had created 3 separate Drupal instances each sharing the same code base. . .perhaps somethnig similar might be appropriate for Heliohost . .no doubt there are many users who employ such CMS systems and there must be a llot of duplicated effort and materlals. . . P.S. I wonder if you could set things up to send out a warning to the user's mail a few days before the deletion of their materials. . While travelling Internet connectivity leaves a lot to be desired, but I do manage to check email once a week or so .. . . Perhaps there are other users who might benefit from this and avoid getting caugth out . .
  11. . Thanks o.r your note - I shall endeavour to be more precise in future - once I have recontstructed my sites ! As it was i did not think my account had been suspended,, but from Byron's reply I realise thsat is indeed the case . Hello Byron - many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. . . 12. Hello there, My Heliohost user name is petem and my root domain is icefactory.heliohost.org I don't think my account has been suspended .. I believe it is less than a month since my last Cpanel login. When I tried to login today my password refused to work and after a few attempts I was told there had been a brute force attempt. After waiting several minutes I tried again and still no luck - so I requested a password reset - but i have not received that email. Meanwhile my domain - icefactory.heliohost.org raises a domain not found error . .. Please help me resolve this - I'm anxious to avoid my account being suspended, and I have recently started inviting people to look at my work in progress, so it is embarrassing if the site is not visible . . Thank you i anticipation of your help, and thanks for the great Heliohost service. looking forward to hearing from you. all the best, Pete. pete_se11@yahoo.com P.S. Before posting this message I have jjust repeated the process, so as to be sure it was not just a transient problem. All is the same- cpanel login failed, password reset email not received and domain not found.
  13. My own ideas are focussed in this direction..so thought I'd comment.. Yes the mass of people, of modest means and aspirations( like you and me) Why should that be so? Ideas need to be shared and teams of people formed for the realization of any project. Simple and inexpensive enough to be able to make a start.. Then more ambitious plans and funding possibilities may emerge. Which branch(es) of engineering are your specialities ? Find something that fascinates you or that you have an affinity or ability with and dream something up. Knowing nothing of you or your circumstances..microfinance, web/ mobile innovation, eco-tourism Hello Manish, You say little of what kind of proect would interest you and the kinds of work you may be interested in. What kind of an engineer. Wherever you are there is an Ice Factory opportunity.( links below) The idea is to locate a suitable building for restoration and conversion to new community uses. The prototype in Trapani, Sicily( housed in the C18th factoy which gives the project its name) would, when finished, offer a wide range of facilities.. Internet Cafe Media production studio Performance space,Gallery/Museum,Artists studios and accomodation, Restaurant and Cafe. Reflecting the position of Trapani in the centre of the Mediterranean, this Ice Factory aims to develop cultural ties with the greater Maghreb. The Internet project aims to facilitate such projects by enabling collaboration, skill-sharing and access to funding opportunities. Any subset of the full Ice Factory facilities could be adapted as a standalone project. Delimon - delicatessen mondiale, worldwide & local speciality foods and artisanat hopes to offer the facility for suppliers to describe their products and offer them for sale on the Internet. No doubt there is a delicious range of products whereever you are . .
  14. to the Wizard . . and from me, belatedly Happy Birthday and wishing you many happy returns. Best thanks also to DJBob and Byron for all their work keeping Heliohost going and improving. Viva ! Viva FLOSS !
  15. Thanks Geoff for your reply.. excuse delay in getting back but I m travelling at the moment and haven t got online till today. . . I appreciate that I cannot create pete@heliohost.org as this is not my domain. I have successfully created addresses at icefactory.heliohost.org( my heliohost domain) BUT - while exploring the email settings in Cpanel I saw a setting for catching unresolved addresses and selected for these messages to be routed to what was described as my system email account (which I presumed to be petem@heliohost.org) - this has been the case when using other similar services in the past. The question actually arose for me when trying to sign up for SAS ShareaSale affiliation program which would not accept an address of the form pete@icefactory.heliohost.org instead requiring an address at a top level domain- so I thought that perhaps I could use my system email ( as described in my original post above) to receive their mail. Perhaps this is not possible and users do not have an address with heliohost.org of the form user@heliohost.org. If this is the case I m sure I ll find a way round, but this would mean that the email setup instructions from CPanel are presently misleading. . . The default email account is used to "catch" mail that is unrouted; it is suggested to create new accounts for daily use. The username and password of the default account is the same as your cPanel account login. Thanks again for your help and the fine Heliohost service... Best Regards, Pete PS. As I understand things my a/c will be marked as inactive after a month without logging in to Cpanel ..and triggering an advisory email. MY question is - how much time can elapse after this email is sent and before my acoount and work gets deleted. Is there any possibility that this deadline can be extended in certain circumstances ? When I m away travelling I m usually continuing to work on my stuff using my lighttpd localhost server on my netbook . . I am thoroughly committed to using Heliohost , having put in quite a lot of work getting things set up. Although I have made a full backup via FTP of all my files it would be tedious to have to recreate them, and as far as I know I have no way to record the subdomain and routings that I have set up using CPanel.
