  1. Cool... I thought we were restricted on having our own favicons... just gave this a try and placed one on my site... it's as basic as imaginable, but now that I know I can have one, I'll go about designing something more fancy tomorrow
  2. Ah OK. Well I don't use FrontPage, only HTML script and CSSs to date; I'm not even going to start talking about PHP and MySQL just yet - fierce complicated stuff for a novice! Although I am intending on using another WYSIWYG editor in the form of Dreamweaver as I move forward, to assist in building new content, but I'm assuming that this is OK since you only mentioned FrontPage. Thanks for the fast reply cl58. Much appreciated! EDIT: That's a good idea actually... like to keep things tidy... so I shall go and do that now Thanks jje! Derek
  3. Username: Zillionz Site: http://traditionalirishfood.heliohost.org/ Server: Stevie Hi guys... I've been toying around with my site in an effort to learn FTP and what have you. I had the essential files for a test site uploaded to the server, and I decided that it was time to take the test site down to facilitate uploading a working, more useful site. Thing is, I'm not sure if I may have deleted some of the original files on the account (i.e.: files that were on the account before I uploaded anything)... The list below is what I have remaining in my public_html folder... can anyone tell me if I have all the files I need to get my site to work properly when I upload it to the server? I have noted that when you go to the index of my site now at the link above there are only two links in the index (namely, cache and cgi-bin)... there used to be three links, so I must have deleted something that is important...? _private_vti_bin_vti_cnf_vti_log_vti_pvt_vti_txtcachecgi-bin Thank you for taking the time to read my question, and I am very grateful for any feedback that you can give me. Derek.
  4. Ah I see.. thanks for the feedback... that's good news, cos i thought we wouldn't be able to add things like that without the JSP. Happy days!
  5. What exactly is it for? I thought it was to allow you to run little scripts for gadgets, such as the one at the link below, on your site. But it turns out I can run them on my site anyways, and I'm on Stevie (which doesn't support the JAVA/JSP feature at the moment), and I didn't make any request for JSP to be enabled on my site. http://www.google.com/ig/directory?synd=open&url=http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/112581010116074801021/spider.xml You can see from my site that this little gadget is running on my 'about me' page at the following link... http://traditionalirishfood.heliohost.org/About%20me.html and you can also see that I have embedded a video from YouTube on the same page. Sorry, I know those items bear no significance to what my site is intended for, but I' just using them to experiment with what can and can't do on my site. So, I take it that I can include any of these gadgets/widgets from Google or other reputable sources, and embed videos on my page whenever I like? Can somebody give me a little guidance on this, thanks
  6. Yeah I've tried firefox, IE and chrome and even tried loading the page up on my mobile phone, and I've had 3 or 4 friends on facebook try go to my page and none of them can either. Could it be something due to my location in Ireland? It's odd and I'm at a loss to work out what's going on if u can see it but nobody else can. Edit: Ummm... it's working now all of a sudden. Maybe a glitch, or it was something going on and the staff have taken care of it. Thanks for your help Tj, and the staff for resolving the issue
  7. Really... that's odd... I've even asked some of my friends over facebook to click the link for it and they also say they cant see it... just an error page... thanks for the feedback Tj!
  8. http://traditionalirishfood.heliohost.org/ Zillionz. Server: Stevie. Can't access my page at all today. I've already cleared my cache and flushed DNS and still no joy. I restarted my computer and reflushed DNS and cleared cache... still can't get in. Any ideas? I can access my control panel.
  9. a. Zillionz b. Stevie c. http://traditionalirishfood.heliohost.org Hi, I joined the day before esterday and my page was functioning properly by last night... however, I tried going to it today and I was redirected to the account queued page. Is it likely to remain there for very long?
  10. Thanks cl58. HelioHost was joint top of the list when I done a search on www.free-webhosts.com and having compared both, HelioHost seemed to offer the better features and the other one on the list seemed a little disingenuous in some way, so I opted for here... already I can see that I made the right choice... features and benefits are comparable to a paid service
  11. Hello guys, My name is Derek. I'm currently teaching myself how to develop webpages while I'm unemployed and seeking work... no point in wasting the time, and being able to do web development is of great value to anyone with ambitions. I have a MSc in Scinece through research and an BSc in Toxicology. I'm currently working on scripting webpages using raw HTML - i like to know the nuts and bolts of something rather than just employing tools and software that just hide the inner workings of things such as web development. When I'm comfortable enough to interpret and write HTML, I may move onto Dreamweaver or other to speed up the process of website building. For the moment, I'm looking for a webhost and domain to test out what I have learned so far by building a small site... I rather see where I'm going first before I start throwing money at something, so a free service will suit my needs for the moment. That's all for now... hope to enjoy my time with you here
