  1. The iPhone is just like everything else Apple makes. You can get a better quality product that does everything Apple's does and more for a lower price from someone else. Other companies make touchscreen, wi-fi phones that are also media players for less money that also have sound recording capabilities, full QWERTY keyboards, self-replaceable batteries and other features that Apple doesn't offer.
  2. Sorry for misspellings and grammatical errors, I copied and pasted. These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place. ATTORNEY: Are you sexually active? WITNESS: No, I just lie there. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory? WITNESS: I forget. ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot? ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo? WITNESS: We both do. ATTORNEY: Voodoo? WITNESS: We do. ATTORNEY: You do? WITNESS: Yes, voodoo. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning? WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam? ____________________________________ ATTORNEY: The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he? WITNESS: Uh, he's twenty. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Were you present when your picture was taken? WITNESS: Are you kidding me? _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And what were you doing at that time? WITNESS: Uh.... I was making love! ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: She had three children, right? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: How many were boys? WITNESS: None. ATTORNEY: Were there any girls? WITNESS: Are you Bleep'in me? Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney? ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: How was your first marriage terminated? WITNESS: By death. ATTORNEY: And by whose death was it terminated? WITNESS: Now whose death do you suppose terminated it? ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual? WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beard. ATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female? WITNESS: Guess. _____________________________________ ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney? WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work. ______________________________________ ATTORNEY: Doctor, how many o f your autopsies have you performed on dead people? WITNESS: All my autopsies are performed on dead people. Would you like to rephrase that? _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to? WITNESS: Oral. ________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m. ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time? WITNESS: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy on him! ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? WITNESS: Huh....are you qualified to ask that question? ______________________________________ And the best for last: ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure? WITN ESS: N o. ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor? WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law
  3. Was she forced to take Prozac? If she feels that she was better off before, why doesn't she stop taking it? It sounds like she expected to start taking Prozac and have her problems disappear. You don't say how long she's been on it, but it takes some time to balance things out and her doctor may need to adjust her dosage. Severe depression can be a very serious illness, but sometimes the cause of the depression is external rather than internal. Medication can't fix the external problems. Our society has started to become dependent on chemicals to get us through the day. Whether it's anti-depressants, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, marijuana or whatever, we are a society of addicts. Doctors are "diagnosing new disorders" all the time. The answer to these new "disorders" is always a new drug. This kid doesn't pay attention, give him a pill. This one gained weight, give her a pill. That one lost weight, give her a pill. He's mean, give him a pill. Medication isn't always the answer. Many of the greatest poets, not to mention painters and other artists, throughout history had mental illnesses and/or clinical depression. It's what fed their art. If Sylvia Plath had been on Prozac, would she have written the works for which she is so famous? What would Van Gogh's paintings have looked like, or would he have painted at all, if he hadn't been a little crazy?
  4. Bottom line, if you are a casual gamer you don't need a high powered graphics card (several hundred dollars) nor do you need a ton of RAM or a giant hard drive. If you are planning on playing the newest FPS or MMOG then you will need those things. You said you would be playing one or two games, to me that sounds like casual gaming. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a computer to play Virtual Villagers, The Sims, Jewel Quest or those hidden object games. Don't overspend, unless you think you will increase your gaming in the future.
  5. I have an '06 Kia Rio, it's gas mileage is great for my 160 mile round trip for work everyday. My wife has an '03 Ford Focus.
  6. It looks like many of you are confusing the fight against al-Qaeda in Afghanistan with the invasion of Iraq. These are two totally unrelated things. Invading Iraq had nothing to do with the al-Qaeda attacks of September 11th, 2001. The United States and the United Nations had plenty of evidence linking the attacks of 9-11 with al-Qaeda. Afghanistan was run by the Taliban at the time and it was shown that they were allowing al-Qaeda to operate training facilities within their country. That is why we went into Afghanistan. Iraq was not shown to be harboring al-Qaeda nor was it's government linked to the 9-11 attacks. In fact, when Bush had us invade Iraq he removed forces from Afghanistan to do it, all but abandoning the search for bin Laden.
  7. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600. Horrible game, everything about it was bad. The graphics weren't the worst for the 2600 but they weren't the best either.
  8. There is a short story by Ambrose Bierce called An Occurrence at Owl Creek. In that story an American Civil War prisoner is being hanged from a bridge. As he drops the rope breaks and he is able to escape. He makes his way home and as he and his wife are running toward each other we find out that it has only been his imagination. His neck breaks and he dies; the entire escape happened in his head in a split second. It was also made into a short film that was shown on The Twilight Zone. What if the life you are living now is actually in your imagination? What if even as you read this you're true self is taking it's last breath?
  9. I'm from the United States. I lived in Europe for many years while I was in the military and my wife is English.
  10. What do you see as some good points and some bad points of anarchy? The concept of anarchy is a very "rock and roll" kind of thing and has been glamorized by some groups. On the surface it seems to have some possibilities, but I think the more you look at it the worse it looks. Some sort of hybrid society including aspects of anarchy would appear to be the way to go. But, I would still like to see what you do and don't like about the idea of anarchy.
  11. First, I'll say that I don't think the government should be monitoring anything the public is doing within their own homes without a search warrant attained on the grounds of reasonable cause that the person is committing a crime. Now, let me play devil's advocate. What if the response had said "in your best interest, because of the proliferation of child porn available through peer-to-peer services"? If they told you they were monitoring file transfers on P2P systems because they were looking for traders of child porn, would you be as upset? If they were looking at file transfers between 5 MB and 20MB because they are potentially kiddie porn, would that necessarily be a bad thing? Do we want the people who prey on young children out there trading their home-made movies and making more and more of them while they destroy the lives of the children they are forcing to participate in their horrible fantasies? Of course we don't want that, but even if that were what they were looking for, it's still a violation of our civil liberties to monitor what we are doing without probable cause of a crime. So, in short, my answer is HELL NO!
  12. I see too many people supporting the troops by saying they support the troops, and that's all. As a former "troop", I find it disgraceful. If you want to say you support the troops, you should actually support them. I couldn't care less if you say you support me, but if you volunteer to help spouses and children who are living their lives back home, that is real support. While I was deployed, I would have been more at ease if people would have brought my wife food and babysat for my daughter to give my wife a break. You know what else would have been nice? How about financial support? Pay some of the bills that stack up at home. Pay my phone bill or my electric bill and I'll feel supported. Don't just say you support the troops, actually do it! Otherwise, all your doing is talking out of your [bleeped!]. But I digress, that was a bit of an off topic rant. It's unfortunate that Bush had a vendetta against Saddam and felt he needed to finish what his daddy started. There's nothing we can do about the war he fabricated so his family's oil buddies could get rich. It's too late now. We, as a nation, had as much right to invade Iraq as Iraq had to invade Kuwait, but we did it because people were too caught up in their patriotism (vengeance) to think properly. Now, we're stuck there. We can't pull out completely but that doesn't mean we should stay there either. The new Iraqi government needs to step up and police themselves instead of relying on us to do it for them. We should scale down our presence over the next year to bring our forces to small forces in major cities only. Perhaps having a couple of semi-permanent installations in Iraq rather than several large temporary encampments around the country would be enough to calm some of the hostiles while helping the turn over of national security to the Iraqi government.
  13. From the answers to some of the questions in the Entertainment forums, I'm starting to feel rather old (33). I'm not passing judgement on anybody, just curious. I'm also not asking for you to post your age, though you are free to do so, just answer the poll, please.
  14. I saw some good songs in those posts, but not many older than 10 years. The Beatles - A Day in the LifePearl Jam - BlackMetallica - Master of PuppetsMotley Crue - Too Young to Fall in LoveBlack Sabbath - Sabbath, Bloody SabbathThose are not in order and to be totally honest, these may not actually be my top 5, but they are all in my top 10, for sure.
