  1. I am not too familiar with anything besides (X)HTML and CSS. Are there certain browsers that do not like PHP or Perl and are they fairly easy to learn?
  2. Let's say that a website has a horizontal navigation bar at the top and that the CSS file styles the navigation bar so that the current page's link has a different colored background than the rest of the navigation bar. Now let's say that none of the CSS works (which is what I often end up pretending when I am trying to code for accessibility). How could I use XHTML to indicate on the navigation bar that the user is on a specific page? I know that not linking that list element is a good clue to the user and I also know that I could use alt text to note that it is the current page. Is there anything else that I could do? Thank you in advance for your input!
  3. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond, I got caught up with work. I do not recall it specifically talking about that. However, the lecturer did talk about how a lot of violence was due to extremesits who were misinterpreting texts not actually part of the Qur'an and not written by Muhammad to justify their actions. The lecture stressed that Islam is a peaceful religion.
  4. I never understood this question or, more accurately, I never understood why it was phrased this way. Obviously, eggs came before chickens. Dinosaurs laid eggs and dinosaurs existed before chickens. Now if the question asked whether the chicken or the chicken egg came first, then that would be a better question. I agree with Infinaety that it would depend on the definition.
  5. This topic reminds me of a collection of public domain images I recently found. It is a bunch of pictures made by French artists in 1899, 1900, 1901 and 1910. They were portraying how they believed France would be like in the year 2000. It is really interesting and makes me think that a lot of the stuff we might think will happen in the next hundred years or so will not happen for a very long time (if ever). If you want to see the pictures you can find them here: http://publicdomainreview.org/2012/06/30/france-in-the-year-2000-1899-1910/
  6. Last year, I attended a guest lecture at my university called Islamophobia. It was a really great lecture that opened my eyes to how a lot of people in the United States (where I am) have misconceptions about the religion simply because they haven't bothered to learn the facts. Unfortunately, this seems to occur with almost all religions/beliefs. Ignorance makes fools of many and hurts many more.
  7. Hello, I'm arcane. I started teaching myself HTML when I was twelve (I am now 23). Since then, I have considered web design a hobby that I dabble in when I have the time. I am not as conversant in CSS as I would like to be. I am currently trying to better familiarize myself with that while updating my HTML knowledge to match the new standards.
