How do I change my server? How do I back up my database?

Yesterday (January 19 2014) the server Johnny was down, My site was not up for a lot of the day. Why was it down?

Putting images in a database is extremely risky and it would not really reduce the amount of storage used. Plus, it would use more CPU resources because of the roundabout server requests, which are very server consuming. Will it have a cache?
